What the heck is a drum dojo you say?
According to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary a dojo is a school for training in various arts of self-defense (such as judo or karate). So a drum dojo would be a school for training various drum methods, techniques, etc. Now the Drum Dojo I’m referring to is just outside of Nashville and the sensei is Jim Riley the drummer for Rascal Flatts.
I learned about the drum dojo by following Jim on social media a few years back. Taking time off from work can be a challenge with my full time job and hurricane season. Jim scheduled a session that fell on the first weekend of December. Talk about perfect timing!
I reached out to Jim via social media and asked about the details. The session is two and a half day over a weekend. Friday and Saturday are a full day and Sunday was a half day. Once I lined things up on my side, I made the commitment to attend the workshop.
According to Jim’s website the drum dojo is a 3 day camp where drummers of all ages can come to study a variety of subjects that are designed to make the attendees more accomplished and successful musicians. The Tuition is $850.00 and includes lunch each day and snacks. Local accommodations are not provided but a list of local hotels will be provided. If you are a drummer looking to make dramatic improvements in your playing this could be just the kickstart you need. http://jimrileymusic.com/lessons
To get a chance to learn from a nationally recognized professional drummer in one of the biggest country bands, how could I pass up the chance.
Now I need to figure out the logistics of getting and staying there.
